WHAT WE DO

OUR GOALS AND PRIORITIES ARE:     

Advocacy for the protection, care and revitalization of the Jewish heritage in Wrocław, including the UMF’s priority site - the former cemetery at Gwarna Street (former Claassenstrasse).

Restoring memory of specific places associated with the pre-war Jewish community of Breslau, through revitalization and contribution to the existing urban and architectural landscape. Proposing solutions embedded in the contemporary spatial and social context.

Engaging Wrocław residents in the practices of creating and caring for memorial sites, including restoration work.

Supporting social responsibility for the city’s past and the development of an inclusive social model of care and maintenance of memorial sites associated with the shared local history.

Working with the memory of Breslau Jews by exploring history, Wrocław’s urban spaces, family histories, genealogy and kinship between members of the pre-war German Jewish community of Breslau and their contemporary descendants.

Establishing a contact point for obtaining information on the registers of burials and graves at the former cemetery at Gwarna Street and on family connections.

Developing and implementing educational projects for young people concerning the pre-war and post-war Jewish heritage in Wrocław that will teach history and support the practices of intercultural dialogue, tolerance, empathy, civic engagement and ethical approach to taking care of memorial sites.
